One of the most visible bodies that is directly related to CSPEL 6 is the Board of Trustees at a district. Since this standard deals directly with the political, social, economic, and cultural context affecting education, one must recognize that this body sets forth most of the policies that drive this standard. As an educational leader one will need to pay close attention to the decisions they make and understand how to use these policies as a guide to their work. Every board is different in their composition, how they handle the work, and their knowledge of how to best execute their duties. It is important for an educational leader to understand how to not only follow these policies but cultivate relationships with the district administrative team and the board to help have as much input as possible when these important decisions and policies are being made.
I was able to attend a board meeting during my program to see this in action and help to understand the process and dynamics of these meetings. I have a great deal of experience sitting in on board meetings and understanding these policies, so I was excited to see how the board at the district I work in specifically operates. Moving forward I would like to continue to get to know our leaders better when the occasion arises and is appropriate. The paper linked below was my reflection and analysis of this meeting.
