Through this case study, I examined suspension rates at the school in which the study was done. In general, the suspension rate is on the decline and is only about 6% in general. However, through the study I found that Black students were suspended at significantly higher rates in comparison to the percentage of the total population. The research conducted about the topic was eye opening in understanding the importance of engaging the all community members, having a staff that reflects the diversity of the student population, and building deep and meaningful relationship with all stakeholders. Given the increasing diversity at the school that was studied, I would be interested to see how these rates shift and change over time. It also makes me curious about how existing programs on campus can be utilized to address existing issues. After completion of this program, I plan to continue to work with leaders on campus to understand these issues more deeply and work to help think of creative solutions. Below, you will find my the related data, problem, improvement plan, and reflections on the study as a whole.
